Dr. Costonis is President of Corporate Development
Services, Inc. (CDS). Dr. Costonis has dedicated his career to developing
management solutions that are relevant to the construction industry and its
unique problems and opportunities.
In l975, he introduced the concept of
R.O.O.I. (Return on Overhead Investment) to the construction industry. This
planning benchmark is an industry standard by which to benchmark management
effectiveness within the industry and is being used by scores of contractors
throughout the United States to plan their business strategies.
In l991 the Associated Builders and Contractors
(ABC) asked Dr. Costonis to write their first ever and best selling management
education book, Planning for Growth and Profit. The book - now sold and distributed
by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) - is
used as the basis for the curriculum of the highly acclaimed Executive Management
Academy sponsored by the National Center and successfully conducted at Clemson
University for the past seven years.
Throughout his career, Dr. Costonis has
published over 35 articles on timely management topics that have appeared
in virtually every trade publication of the industry from Construction Business
Review, ABC Today and Constructor to Domestic Engineering, Professional Roofing,
Qualified Remodeled, Multi-Housing News and SNIPS.
In l997, the University of Florida, M.E.
Rinker School of Construction honored Dr. Costonis by selecting him as the
1997 Distinguished Rinker Lecturer, an annual distinction given to individuals
who have made significant contributions to the development and improvement
of the construction industry in the United States.
A dynamic and much sought after speaker,
Dr. Costonis has appeared before numerous industry forums, including national
conventions for such organizations as Associated General Contractors (AGC),
the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the Mechanical Contractors
Association, ABC and others.
In addition to NCCER's Executive Management
Academy, Dr. Costonis has put together specialized programs featuring his
innovative materials for AGC's Advanced Management Training programs, NECA's
Executive Study Program and the New Zealand Electrical Contractors Association,
among others.
In his role as consultant and confidant,
Dr. Costonis has worked with scores of contractors of every size and specialty
throughout the United States and abroad, while maintaining management of oversight
of CDS.
Dr. Costonis holds undergraduate degrees
from Boston College, graduating in 1958, and earned his Ph.D. at the University
of Chicago in 1977.
